Willie James Howie, age 71, of Imera Ave in Providence, passed away peacefully on November 11th, 2023 with his life partner of 42 years, Mary {Mae} Cameron, at his bedside. Willie was the son of Marjorie Huffman of Riverside, RI and the late Clarence Howie. Willie was born in Charlotte, NC and came to RI aschild. Besides his life partner Mae, he leaves to cherish eight siblings. Dottie Howie {Rufus} of Pawtucket, RI, Keith Howie and Shirley Howie of Providence, RI, Maurice Howie of Pawtucket, RI, Juan Howie of N.Carolina, and Brian Howie, Marcus and Michelle Huffman of Providence, RI. He is also survived by his three children Damon Johnson, Nioka Babbitt and Edward Blackmon, five grand children and one great grandchild. He is also survived by Mae’s granddaughter, Blessing Lawrence, whom he helped raise. Blessing always called him Weeoo.
Willie graduated from Hope High School and attended some college at RIC. Willi was actively involved with his love for kick boxing in the early 70’s and earned the title of “Master Wou”.
Willie was also an actor playing many lead roles at Brown Universities Rites and Reasons Theatre during the late 70’s, 80’s and early 90’s.
Willie second passion was shooting pool. Willie was a regular atSnookers and won a few trophies in tournaments.
Willie employed by Marathon House where he was an outreach worker where he assisted active drug with getting into drug programs. He also was employed by MAP Alcohol and Drug Rehabilitation program as a residential counselor which he really enjoyed. Willie was last employed by The Whitmarsh Corporation where he was a residential group home counselorworking with troubled young boys. Willie was affectionallycalled “Mr. Bill”. Willie retired from The WhitmarshCorporation in 2019.
Willie leaves behind many friends and he was well known in the community. He will surely be missed. Rest Easy in Paradise.
