Thelma Maddox Obituary

Thelma Louise Peeler-Maddox passed away peacefully on Sunday, May 3, 2020, at Rhode Island Hospital surrounded by the voices of those who loved her dearly.

She was born on July 27, 1939, in Shelby, North Carolina, to Bolen and Selma Peeler. She was married to the late Jerry Lee Maddox. Louise moved from Chattanooga, TN, to Providence, Rhode Island, in the early 1970’s with her three children, Gary, Pamelia and Natasha.

Shortly, after arriving in Providence, she became a member of the Holy Cross Church of God in Christ. She gave her life to Christ and became a beloved member of the choir and served as the Choir President. Her voice was known to soothe your soul in a sweet melodic tone.

The Lord blessed her with a spirit of counsel and anointed her as a prayer warrior. She was tough and determined, with a gentle, tenderhearted, compassionate, helpful, congenial, and forbearing spirit, all while holding to the very high standard of Holiness in Christ Jesus. She was known to family and friends as a truth teller, a confident, best friend and advisor. Those who appreciated her counsel called her Ma, Squeezy Weezy, Auntie Louise and Bubbie (Grandmother). She adored her family and helped coordinate countless family reunions so everyone could stay connected.

Louise worked as a Certified Nurse’s Assistant almost 20 years at the Rhode Island Medical Center before retiring in 2001.  She enjoyed her retirement in the warmth and coziness of her apartment while spending quality time with her family.

Louise leaves to mourn her sister Maxine Ross of Providence. Her daughters, Pamelia Bailey of Stoughton, MA, Natasha Mylers (and Special loving son-in-law Anthony) of Warwick, RI, and Regina Maddox of Providence. She raised and supported Dennis (Ray-Ray) Peeler of Texas and LaToya Peeler-Thompson of Providence, RI. Special Loving daughter/niece Faye Peeler-Jean (Johnny) and her children Dion Peeler (Tina), Keisha Peeler-Weston (Andre) from Woodstock, Maryland.Special niece Linda Edward of Providence, RI.

She adored her 8 grandchildren; Latwana & Gary Jr. Maddox, Brodrick, Austin & Aren Bailey, Dimitri & Isaiah Mylers, and Jaden Rosa. She affectionately named her grandsons her “Punkin Heads” Louise was the proud Great Grandmother of;  Anyla, Shakyla, Garyyanna , Gary III, Gavion, Xavier, Aaron and Sincere, all of Providence, RI.

She also leaves to mourn a host of cousins, nephews, nieces, and extended family members and friends from North Carolina, Maryland, Virginia Texas and Rhode Island.

Louise was preceded in death by her parents Bolen and Selma Peeler, brother Bolen Jr. and sisters Dorothy Berry, fJessie Smith, Brenda Adio and her son Gary E. Maddox Sr. Ma, Squeezy Weezy, Auntie Louise and Bubbie you served us well during our days together. We appreciate and love you with all of our hearts. Rest In Peace, Sweet Heavenly Peace.
