Steven Johnson Obituary

Steven DeWayne Johnson, 59, of Providence, Rhode Island, was called to glory on February 5, 2020.  Born in Providence, Rhode Island.

Steven is survived by his wife Pamela Jean Johnson, loving sons Dorian, Providence, RI, Steven, Jr., Atlanta, GA, Deven, Norcross, GA, and daughter Deanna, Lithonia, GA, the beloved son of Raymond Robert Johnson, Sr. and Barbara (Ashley) Johnson, brother Raymond (Timmy) Robert Johnson, Jr. of Rex, GA, and sisters Verlena Johnson, of Providence, RI, and Tonine Johnson of Jonesboro, GA, grandchildren, Sahara, Harlen, R’mahni, Aubrey, Caleb, and Marcellus, and a host of cousins and nieces and nephews.

Steven (Stevie) loved sports, especially college basketball, his favorite team was Providence College and was a New England Patriots fan. He worked for the State of Rhode Island as a Maintenance Engineer.  Stevie could repair and fix anything and loved planting fresh vegetables. His true passion and talent were playing his bass guitar and listening to music by his favorite artists such as Earth Wind and Fire, Marcus Miller, and Wayman Tisdale.  He attended Berklee College of Music.  Stevie played in the band Elements of Sound with his brother Timmy (drums), close friend and mentee/mentor Kevin Ingrams (guitar), cousin Kevin Jefferies (guitar), close family member Wilbur Grissom (vocals), sister-in-law’s, Odessa Hayes (lead vocals), Janet Santiago (lead vocals), and his loving Uncle Noble Ashley (vocals, bongos), for many years.  Their talents led them to be the opening band for Aretha Franklin at the Ocean State Theatre in Providence, RI.  Additionally, Stevie’s talent afforded him to perform all over New England, and Atlanta, GA.
