Stacy D. Harris

A brighter star shines in the sky these nights.  Stacy D. Harris, 65, of Providence, Rhode Island, passed away peacefully on August 8, 2026. Born on December 13, 1960, in San Juan, Puerto Rico. Stacy was the beloved daughter of the late James Thurman and as a child of eight she leaves behind six siblings, preceded only in death by sister Linda Harris. 

Stacy was the proud mother of two daughters, Tanea' Harris, Providence, Rhode Island, and Angelica Terry, Raleigh, North Carolina. Nannie to eleven grandchildren, Glam-Ma to two great-grandsons and ‘Aunty Stacy,’ to a whole extended family she created from the ground up.

A proud graduate of Mt. Pleasant High School, Class of 1978, Stacy remained deeply connected to her high school community throughout the years. A member of the Mt. Pleasant High School basketball and gymnastics team she never lost that competitive spirit. Stacy was instrumental in helping organize and plan high school reunions, allowing friendships and memories to stay alive long after graduation.

After years of of hardships, strife and adversities, one of Stacy's greatest accomplishments was her journey of recovery. On January 5, 1993, Stacy found Narcotics Anonymous and for the last 33 years has lived life with sobriety as her lifeline. Her recovery became much more than a personal accomplishment—it became a purpose. Stacy dedicated herself to Narcotics Anonymous and devoted countless years to supporting newcomers, offering encouragement, understanding, and hope to those beginning their own journeys of recovery. Her strength, honesty, and willingness to help others were and still are an inspiration to many.

Outside of her commitment to family and recovery, Stacy enjoyed the simple pleasures of life. She was an avid card player and loved gathering with family and friends to play cards and board games. These moments of laughter, competition, and togetherness created memories that will be treasured for years to come. 

A smile like a hug, a laugh like no other, a voice not only heard but felt, Stacy made it her mission to show love. Whether it be through her gestures, words of advice or handing you a plate of food, Stacy made sure you felt loved. If you were loyal to her, she was loyal to you and nothing ran more deep than her loyalty to her Dallas Cowboys. Football season will never be the same now. Definitely a little less loud now. Stacy was passionate, full of life, and fiercely true to her convictions. She was fun-loving, strong-willed, and never afraid to stand up for what she believed was right. The kind of person who made sure you always knew where you stood with her. She lived authentically and loved deeply, leaving an impression on everyone fortunate enough to know her. 

Above all, Stacy cherished her family, especially her grandchildren, who meant the world to her. Her love for them was evident in the joy she found in spending time with them and watching them grow. It was her family that gave her the desire, the reasoning to keep on fighting. Stacy made a commitment to herself, to her family to keep fighting against kidney disease, unfortunately succumbing to the complications. 

Stacy will be remembered for her strength, her passion, her honesty, her humor, and her enormous heart. She lived her life on her own terms, fought for what she believed in, and dedicated much of her life to helping others find their strength. This is one that will be felt for ages but may Stacy forever stay in our hearts.
