Sandra Hughes Obituary

Sandra Hughes, 79, of Providence, RI, passed away March 4th at RI Hospital surrounded by family.  She had two children, Christopher Macchioni, my beloved brother (give mom a hug and kiss for me) and myself, Lori Brown.  She leaves behind my husband, Gary Brown, thank you for always making her laugh and being silly.  She loved you and knew you loved her.  As well as her four awesome grandchildren, Deanna Gomes, Nicole Robinson, Larry Robinson and Karyssa Brown.  I am so proud of the adults you’ve all become.  My wonderful dad, Arthur Hughes, passed away in 2021.  She also leaves my lovely daughter-in-law, Ashley Blossom.  Thank you for coming into our lives.  As well as Deanna’s husband Donald and girls Jaleea and Amiyah.  She loved you all very much.  Mom was the oldest of 9 children.  Debbie Macchioni, Cindi Caito, Michael Macchioni, Alphonse (Butchy) Macchioni Jr., Richard Macchioni, Bobby Macchioni, Billy Macchioni and Jimmy Macchioni.  Her parents were Doris Lavalle Macchioni and Alphonse Macchioni, Sr.  She leaves many nieces and nephews and their families as well.  She will be remembered for her “no-nonsense” attitude that hid a big caring soul.  Someone who sacrificed for her family and spent a lifetime nurturing other’s.  She imparted her knowledge, skills and the spirt to never give up.  We have all been enriched to have known her.

My mom was the most wonderful woman in my life.  She was hard-working, always planning for the future and demonstrated her love in how she took care of us and kept us safe while preparing us to do whatever we wanted to do in the future.  She raised me to be self-reliant and to approach any situation head-on with a plan that gave 110% of myself.  She taught me to work hard for what I wanted and I owe my many skills and “can do” attitude to the strongest, most beautiful, amazing woman it was my pleasure to be close to after all these years.  She spent her life taking care of others and I was lucky enough to have spent my life benefiting from knowing the most intelligent, hardest working, caring person in the world.  I love you mom.  You leave a dark hole in my heart, but your memories will keep me going.  Thanks Mom, for the many lessons in plumbing and construction, your delicious cooking, great conversations and laughs.   Thanks for letting me spoil you and for your awesome smile and laugh that I loved to make happen.  Thank you for teaching me it was ok to fail.  It just helps you to grow and get the job done.  I love you and can’t thank you enough for making me the person I am today and for the millions of happy memories we made together.  You will be missed but I will keep you in my heart, where you’ve always been and I will see you again someday.  I love you Mom.
