Norma E. (Jackson) Baker, born on January 12, 1933, passed away peacefully at the Elmwood Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Providence, RI, on March 14, 2025, at the age of 92. She was the daughter of the late Winfield N. Jackson, Sr. and Audrey (Jackson) Washington.
Norma was preceded in death by her husband, L.C. “Mike” Baker, Jr., with whom she shared 58 years of marriage. She was also preceded in death by her son, Eric S. Baker, and his wife, Veronica (Clark) Baker; her grandson, Kevin Burton Baker; and her brothers: Dale E. Jackson, Truman “Chuckie” Jackson, Sr., and Winfield N. Jackson, Jr. Additionally, she was preceded in death by four sisters: Vivian (Jackson) Carr, Betty Jean (Jackson) Morgan, and Barbara (Jackson) Stuckey.
Norma dedicated her career to caring for others, spending nearly three decades at the Providence Veterans Administration Medical Center. Her compassion and commitment earned her the deep affection of her patients. Known for her warm smile and kind-hearted nature, she became a cherished presence in the lives of many.
Norma loved spending time with her children and grandchildren. Over the years, she made numerous trips to visit them in North Carolina and Virginia, and each visit was filled with joy and good memories. She often expressed her readiness for whatever lay ahead in life, feeling a genuine sense of peace knowing that her family was thriving. This knowledge filled her heart with happiness and allowed her to enjoy every moment spent with them.
Norma is survived by her daughters: Valerie L. Baker, of Pawtucket, RI; Rochelle Y. Baker of Cranston, RI; Dale E. Baker of Concord, NC; her son Dwayne G. Baker and wife Sheila Baker of Warrenton, VA. She is also survived by her grandchildren: Dwayne L.G. Baker, Eric S. Baker, Curtis J. Spikes, Temeka L. Franklin, Damien A. Baker, Sr., She-raBaker-Edwards, Dominique A. Baker, Sade´ Barnes, Ricky L. Newton, and Leland L. Baker. Along with 27 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.
