Minnie L. Young

Minnie Lee Young, 89, was born December 14th, 1931 in Newberry, South Carolina, to the late Thomas Jefferson Sanders, Sr. and Henrietta Sanders, who both proceeded her in death.

Minnie was the oldest out of five children. Sarah Broome of Nashua, New Hampshire, Rubie Werts, Thomas J. Sanders, Jr. and Robert Sanders whom also proceeded her in death.

Minnie leaves behind to cherish her loving memory her four children Benjamin Young, Brenda Young, Sympathy Silva, and Ruedine Woods. Nine Grandchildren, Aaron Young, Ryan Young, Devan Young, Pedro Sanders, Sharmbray Sanders, Hilary Sanders, Sharnese Williams, Sterling Silva, and Storm Woods. 22 Great Grandchildren and 7 Great Great Grandchildren.

Minnie came to Rhode Island in the late 50’s with her cousin Narvis to start a new life for her and her children. Minnie always worked two jobs to support her family. Minnie enjoyed help raising her Grandkids, and cooking southern food. Minnie had the best Sweet Potato pies that everyone loved. Every year for the holidays she would make dozens of pies and pass them out to her family and close friends. Minnie worked at E& A Adams, then became a Jewelry Maker at Speidel’s from 1987 until retirement in 1999. Minnie’s favorite hobbies were gambling at the casino, you could always find her at Foxwoods. Minnie moved to East Side Apartments where she helped everyone in the building. Everyone came to Minnie for everything, her door was always open. Minnie would get bread, pastries, and coffee to pass out in the community room every week to the tenants in the building. Minnie enjoyed going for long walks in the neighborhood if you stopped to offer her a ride she would say “ No thank you.” Minnie passed away on January 3rd, 2021 surrounded by her loving family.
