Mary V. Thomas departed this life on March 22, 2026, at her home in Johnston, Rhode Island at the age of eighty-eight. She was born to Mary Araujo Monterio and Armando Perry on November 24, 1937. Left to mourn her passing are her children, Periane Thomas (Vanda Veiga) of Cranston, RI; Ronetta J. Ross (Michael Ross) of Johnston, RI.; Ronald L. Thomas, Jr. (Denise Thomas) grandson Stephon of Pawtucket, RI. Grandchildren: Vanessa Brooks (Angel Peralta) and great grandchildren Janelle and Julius of Keene, NH; Ronald L. Thomas III (Celia Cordeiro) of Riverside, RI; Christian D. Vargas (Genesis Vargas) and great grandson Gabriel of North Smithfield, RI; Sa'Renna N. Thomas of Orlando, FL; Harper M. Ross of Cleveland, OH. Sister: Lisa Barlow of Vero Beach, FL, nephews and niece David, Matthew, Nicholas, Jon and Lia; Sisters of the heart: Maria Carrington, Jeanette Paris; niece Maya Breuer; along with many cousins and lifelong friends “The Lunch Bunch”.
With grace, quiet brilliance, and a lifelong devotion to helping others succeed, Mary lived a life defined by skill, generosity, and care.
Mary was a proud graduate of Hope High School followed by secretarial school, Mary built a remarkable career first as a medical then a legal secretary, followed by a role as a community advocate, earning a reputation for precision, discretion, and unwavering professionalism. An expert in shorthand and a master of the written word, Mary possessed a rare ability to bring clarity and order to even the most complex work. Countless graduate students owe their polished papers—and perhaps even their degrees—to Mary’s meticulous typing and keen eye.
But it was beyond the office walls where Mary’s legacy truly blossomed. A natural mentor with a patient heart, Mary dedicated time to helping children discover the joy of reading, volunteering to tutor elementary students and nurturing confidence in every young mind encountered. As a typing instructor, Mary passed on not only practical skills but also a sense of discipline and pride in one’s work.
At home, Mary’s hands were never still. Whether crocheting, knitting, or sewing, Mary created warmth and beauty stitch by stitch—gifts that wrapped loved ones in comfort long after they were made. Each completed piece reflected the same care and attention that defined every aspect of life.
Mary will be remembered as a steady guide, a generous teacher, and a quiet force of excellence. Her legacy lives on in the many lives she touched, the skills she shared, and the love she wove into everything she did.
She lived a life with movement, melody, and meaning. A devoted traveler, she wandered not just to see the world, but to feel it—collecting moments like treasures and turning strangers into friends. Music was her constant companion, and wherever a rhythm played, she was never far from the dance, bringing joy to every room with an effortless grace.
She had a gift for words, writing letters that lingered long after they were read—each one thoughtful, warm, and deeply personal. To be known by them was to be remembered in ink.
But perhaps her greatest legacy was the way she made others feel. Her hugs were legendary—full, unhurried, and sincere—offering comfort, celebration, and love all at once.
She leaves behind a world brighter for her presence, and a quiet echo of laughter, music, and kindness that will never truly fade.
