Mariano David Balon of Providence, Rhode Island passed away at 1:15 a.m on March 19, 2021 at Roger Williams Medical Center.
Born in Guayaquil, Ecuador on April 9, 1957, David was the fourth child of Nancy Yanez and Mariano Jacinto Balon Mazzini. He graduated as a mechanic from Colegio Aguirre Abad before joining the Ecuadorian Army, where he explored the indigenous people of the Amazon for a year. In 1981 he relocated to Rhode Island where he raised his three sons Mariano, Nelson and Alex with his then wife Alexandra Cirino.
David was someone who brought joy and laughter to the lives of his friends and family. For generations, Christmas parties became instantly memorable when Santa arrived. He passed presents with a hearty ho-ho-ho while suspicious children asked parents why Santa looked so much like Tio David.
He was passionate about auto mechanics, enjoyed playing volleyball and spoiling everyone with his love of cooking. Ceviche became a staple at every family gathering where he guarded his secret recipe as someone inevitably asked for it. He enjoyed dressing sharp and was a proud shoe-a-holic with a wide selection of hats for every special occasion.
David was a member of The Faith Moving Mountains Church.
David is survived by his mother Nancy Yanez, aunt Niza Diaz, sons Mariano, Nelson and Alex, granddaughter Marianny, siblings Franklin, Miry, Jacqueline and Magdalen and other family and friends who will always love and miss him.
