Lottie Bell Beatty Wheeler
Sis. Lottie Wheeler was born in Council, North Carolina. She was the eighth of thirteen children. She was educated in North Carolina Public Schools and attended Fayetteville State University.
In 1947, Sis Wheeler moved to Providence, R. I. where she met and married Henry J. Wheeler. She cherished her role as a wife and mother. She later worked at Klitzner Industries.
In 1953, Lottie joined Allen A.M.E. Church and worked diligently through the years. Locally, she served as Providence Area WMS Chair for eight years where she encouraged area churches to participate on the conference level. As President of Sarah Bass Allen WMS, she energized local members to travel to the area, district and connectional events.
She served as president of the Senior Choir and Stewardess Board, and as vice-president of the Robert M Perry Sr Lay Organization of which she was a founding member. Her Church School participation included teaching the Junior Class and as treasurer. She was a member of the Christian Education Board.
At the Conference level, Sis Lottie was Chairperson of the Research and Status of Black Women and Hughes -Smith Life Members Standing Committees. She represented New England at several WMS Quadrennials. She was a Life Member of the WMS and proudly wore her Life Member stole.
Her recognitions include Service to Missions by the New England Conference WMS, Rebecca Johnston WMS-Bethel, Providence, Arabella WMS-Mt Zion, Newport, and Sarah Bass Allen WMS-Allen, Providence.
Sis Lottie believed that giving to those in need was her duty. She tirelessly gave to many charities and aid organizations and volunteered at the Providence rescue Mission.
Lottie enjoyed solving Word Search puzzles. She loved to spend time with her family and share a good meal including chocolate candy.
She loved to read her bible and call on the name of the Lord.
Sis Wheeler leaves to cherish her memory her daughter Zella A Snead of Providence, R.I., grandson Eric J Snead (Theresa) of Providence, R.I., great granddaughter Erica A Snead of Providence, R.I., Great grandson Jamal Aziz Perry and great granddaughter Pheonyx Faye of Providence, R.I. her sisters: Esther Edmonds of NY, Hazel Johnson (Arthur) of West Haven, Ct, Frances Russ of Duquense, Pa, Goddaughter Priscilla Johnson of Hyde Park, Ma, Godson Mark Russ of Duquense, Pa.
She was preceded in death by her sisters: Amy Fairweather, Hagar Russ, Marzella Simpson, Josephine Henry and brothers: Robert Beatty, Elijah Beatty, Gideon R Beatty, Jr, James Beatty, McKinley Beatty. She leaves her sister-in-law Lucille Beatty as well as a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
