Joe Kenneth Phillips

Joe K. Phillips “Kenny”, of Providence, RI, passed away on June 23, 2023 after a short battle with cancer, surrounded by his loving family. He was the husband of Nancy (Williams) Phillips. Born in Shelby, NC to the late Melvin Phillips, Sr. and Pauline (McDowell) Phillips on April 18, 1937. 

He graduated from the North Carolina School System. Kenny enlisted in the US Navy serving from 1956–1960 with an honorable discharged. 

Kenny leaves two children — daughter Mishele Lee (Phillips) Carvalho and son Kenneth Joseph Phillips; two grandchildren — Alexandra Mishele Carvalho “Pa’s favorite granddaughter” and Kenneth Josiah Phillips “Pa’s best friend “Mr. Phillips” and brother Melvin Phillips, Jr. and his wife Patricia.

After many years, Kenny retired from Vinyl Packaging. Kenny soon went to work at Bar 148, where his son is a partner in the business. Kenny enjoyed his job and was proud of his title “Senior Management “. He loved to cook and would share dishes with family and his friends at the bar.

Kenny had a passion for playing golf. He was a founding member of the T-Shots Golf League & played many years until getting sick. 

Kenny also leaves to mourn him, his sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, cousins, godchildren, many friends & family dog Buddy.
