Jesse Johnson Obituary

On June 12th, 2020, Jesse R. Johnson, loving and devoted husband of Verna R Johnson passed away at the age of 84.  Jesse was born on September 25th, 1935 in Providence, RI and was the son of the late Archie R. Johnson Sr and the late Mary V. Johnson.

As a young man he served four years in the Air Force. During those years he had the opportunity to travel to various locations in Europe and during the Korean War Conflict.  Those experiences provided him with many fond memories.  After serving in the service, Jesse settled in California where he made a home and this is where his oldest children were born. Upon returning to Rhode Island he worked at various jobs. The job he enjoyed the most was his position as a long-shore-man where he worked on the docks in Providence for 30+ years until he retired in 1995.

He leaves his children Rasonja Johnson, Raymond Johnson, LaGinger Johnson, Padgett Johnson, the late Jesse R. Johnson, Jr, Kitra Johnson  and Lola Johnson all from California. David Johnson, Brian Johnson (Kelly), Glen Johnson (Daisy) of Providence, Rhode Island. He also leaves a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.

He was the brother of Raymond Johnson, Rev, Tyrone Johnson, Margaret Stallworth and the late Archie Johnson, Roberta Hinton and Ina May King.

After his family, his greatest love was his animals. There was never a time he did not have a dog and oftentimes multiple dogs. He took great pride and enjoyment in coaching little league football when his youngest children played for the West Elmwood Intruders.  To this day, he is still called "Coach Johnson" by all those little football players who are grown men today.

Jesse leaves many who loved and respected him. All will mourn his passing.
