Jack Garner Obituary

Jack D. Garner, 78, passed away at his home in North Providence, Rhode Island on September 1st, 2020.

He was the son of the late Lee Edward Garner and the late Obea Kate Garner both of Maryville, Tennessee. Jack grew up in the towns of Alcoa and Maryville, Tennessee. After attending Hall High School in Alcoa, Jack joined the U.S. Army and served in Germany during the Vietnam War. Jack had an affinity to fix and repair all kinds of gadgets and electronics. He enjoyed fresh-water fishing and some “old-school” video games especially together with his late son Joshua.

Jack was one of 12 children born to his beloved parents. He is survived by his siblings: Gwen Ransom, Mary Dorsey,  Elaine Garner, Connie McGee, John Garner, Daniel Garner, Donald Garner, Neil Garner, and Ronald Garner.  His sister Lee Ethel Smith and brother David Bruce Garner died in previous years. 

Jack leave behind his longtime beloved companion and life partner  of more than 40 years, Marie DiStefano of Providence.  Together they were blessed parents of 4 children; Jacqueline Nelson of North Providence and Jamie DiStefano of Providence. His only son Joshua DiStefano and his eldest daughter Melissa DiStefano died in previous years. Jack was the loving uncle to dozens of nieces and nephews who loved him so dearly.

His family is very grateful for all of the messages of condolence and prayers. A very special and heartfelt thank you is extended to each and all who generously helped-out financially to offset the costs of Jack’s final expenses.
