Ida Pearl Plynton, Doll, 96, passed away peacefully on Sunday, October 30, 2022, in Providence, RI. She was the daughter of the late Ida Vera Stephens and Prince Albert Grant.
She was born on January 10, 1926, in Manhattan, New York. She was raised in Guy’s Hill, Jamaica WI. She worked as a ILGWU seamstress and for many years as a teacher for the developmentally challenged.
Ida is survived by her sister Lucille May Grant, daughters Imani Gunderson and Oza Plynton, and son Lon Plynton. She leaves 9 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren, and 3 great-great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased by her husband, Elmo Winston Plynton, sister Grace Constance Anderson, and daughter, Geraldine Ramona Plynton.
A lover of crafting, gardening and sewing, she created and sold many culturally inspired designs. Ida was a long-standing member of All-Souls Episcopal Church in NYC. She took pleasure in helping in caring for her many grandchildren. Ida’s nurturing and generous presence will be sorely missed.
A celebration of her life is planned for Saturday, November 5th, 2022, at Beneficent Congregational Church, 300 Weybosset St, Providence RI 02903. Viewing at 1:00 pm, service at 2:00 pm.
