Freeman Summerville Obituary

FOREVER IN OUR HEARTS!

Freeman William “Big Boy” Summerville Aged: 66 Years Old
Sunrise: January 20th, 1958 – Sunset: July 9th, 2024
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved father, Freeman William “Big Boy” Summerville, who sadly left our world on July 9, 2024, at the Hope Health Hulitar Hospice Center in Providence, Rhode Island after a brief illness. He was a gentle man, whose life was richly lived in service, hard work, and kindness. He was an avid football (soccer) player and fan. Big Boy was the life of the party, who loved to dance, and had a keen ability for doing car repairs and body work. He was a helper to so many in the community. Freeman left an indelible mark on the lives of everyone with whom he came in contact with his kind and gentle ways. He
was a dedicated team member of Edesia, where he started working in 2010, retiring in 2022. Born in Monrovia, Liberia West Africa, and grew up on Gurley Street, and attended Newport High School and St. Philip in Gardnerville, Monrovia. He then went to a technical school where he studied Auto Mechanical Engineering. Freeman sought refuge in Ghana after the decades long civil wars in Liberia, living on the Buduburum refugee camp for many years until he and his children were fortunate to emigrate to Rhode Island, USA, to start a new life with his sister Elizabeth and her family. He was the son of the late Gedeh Mary Watson (neé Weah) –(deceased) and was raised by his beloved aunt Seo Polu Summerville (deceased) and her husband Emmanuel Christopher Summerville (deceased). He leaves to mourn his loss and legacy through his children Joseph Summerville, Inga Summerville, William Summerville, Jerry Summerville and Gelah Summerville, his brother Samuel Swen, Evelyna (Girl) Harris, his grandchildren and a host of foster siblings, nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives and friends, including his Edesia and Higher Ground International families. Big Boy was preceded in death by his sister Elizabeth Swen, brother Thomas Watson and daughter Elizabeth “Betty” Summerville. Freeman’s memory will be a guiding star for all who knew him.
