EARLY LIFE AND EDUCATION

Cordelia Famata Ammons was born on December 13, 1949, in Bishop Brooks, Monrovia, Liberia, to Augustus Theodore Ammons and Beatrice

M. Gould, both of blessed memory. She began her early education at Monrovia Demonstration School. She furthered her education at Ricks Institute in 1964 and Todee Mission in 1965. Cordelia later graduated as a certified nurse/midwife from Miss Moore Mission.

CAREER

Cordelia started her career as a nurse at the Liberia Mining Company

(LMC). She later worked at Island Clinic under Dr. Amecsi in the same field. She resigned from Island Clinic to engage in trading and devote time to caring for her husband and children. During Liberias crises, Cordelia returned to nursing, a profession she knew and loved. She worked at Dr.

Sirlerf Clinic on Snapper Hill, Monrovia, Liberia. In Ghana, Cordelia continued to pursue her passion at Grasam Clinic, East Legon, Accra, Ghana, for a period before eventually retiring.

PERSONAL LIFE

Cordelia was blessed with a large and loving family. She was married to Ernest Kojo Tay Ocloo and was known for her jovial spirit, hospitality, trustworthiness, and humanitarian nature.

Cordelia was a giver; she would give her last to see smiles on others’ faces. She was a very dedicated and devoted member of Charlotte Memorial United Methodist Church, Caldwell New Georgia, Monrovia, Liberia. She served the church in various capacities, including Mother of the Year and Head of the Women’s Organization. She was a devoted mother, sister, niece, aunt, and friend who loved her family and friends both home and abroad. Yes, she loved her family to a fault.

Cordelia Famata Ammons (Mrs. Tay) passed on to glory after a long, spirited health battle on September 26th 2025. May her soul rest in the bosom of the Almighty.

She leaves to mourn one brother, Philip G. Ammons, and 7 sisters, Gloria Ammons Wiles, Dorothy D. West, Roselyn M. Ammons, Ann Koetea, Rev. Naomi Amegashie, Mamai A. West and Esther Ammons.

Survived by one Aunty Amina Ammons Saysay.

She is survived by 6 children: Florence R. Mallay, Hawa, Papa Tunde Cole, Cayode T. Cole, Williams Blake, and Cornelius J. Ocloo.

Agnes Ama Tay, Mrs. Margaret Tay Siaffa, Prince Tay, Ernest Kojo Tay, Jr., Marie Tay Kamara, Deborah Tay Kamara, and Jennifa Tay Kamara.

Cordelia W. Mallay, Jones P. Mallay, Fredrick D. Mallay, Florina D. Mallay, Arella M. Ocloo, Timothy Blake, Titus A. Blake, Victoria S. Blake, Grace K. Blake, Annie G. Blake, and Desire P. Blake.

Esther, Evon, Ivan Jr., Kamari, Amarni, and Nuriel.
