With deep love and faith, our family announces the passing of Carmen Socorro Hernandez, who was born on April 6, 1961, in Caguas, Puerto Rico, and entered into eternal rest after a long and courageous battle with cancer.
Carmen was the devoted mother of Jesse Lopez (who preceded her in passing), Nelson Lopez, Ceasar Baldomero, and Nico Campoverde, and the proud grandmother of Omar Lopez. She was also a beloved daughter, sister, aunt, and friend whose vibrant light and laughter touched everyone she met.
Carmen was more than family—she was our safe place. When seas got rough she was the anchor in so many of our lives. To her siblings, her children, her grandson, and the hundreds of nieces and nephews she claimed as her own, she was the one we always turned to. Whether you needed a meal, a drink or a place to lay your head her door was always open, her phone always answered and her heart always ready to listen. Everyone ran to her in difficult times because she kept our secrets, carried our burdens, and gave us peace through her love.
Carmen’s faith and resilience never wavered. Known to most as “Titi Coqui” she remained full of joy, laughter, and unwavering support for others. Growing up, she joyfully hosted holidays and celebrations. Later we carried the gatherings to her because no celebration was complete without her at the center.
Carmen was a woman of action and compassion. If someone was in need, she stepped in making calls & finding solutions as she moved mountains to help. She made things happen, never seeking recognition, always giving of herself.
While we grieve her loss, we rejoice in knowing that Carmen has gone home welcomed by God’s warm embrace and reunited with her beloved son Jesse. Her legacy of strength, faith and laughter will continue to guide all who were blessed to know her.
