Carmen L. Gutierrez

Carmen Luisa Gutierrez Cruz, a beloved mother and sister and an integral part of our family.  With a perpetual smile, she leaves behind her daughter Ana Gutierrez, her sons Jesus Gutierrez and Bryan Gautier along with 3 grandchildren.  A courageous mother, who raised her kids mostly without a father and who battled through the challenges of immigration from our beloved country and established herself and her kids for a better future in Providence, RI.

Born in 1954 in La Vega, Dominican Republic from Don Lorenzo Antonio and Ana Perseverada, she is one of 10 siblings who remain a very tight group and family centered.  She was at the heart of every celebration with a spark of joy and a pleasant smile for everyone attending, while going through all the delicious dishes from our rich palate of foods within our culture.  A masterful cook herself, she was the one to take care of business when special occasions arrived.

In our hearts and our souls she will always be remembered as a happy, compassionate, hard working mother who wouldn’t retreat or surrender against anything in life, one that had a heart for the needy and foremost, one that never needed great wealth or glamour to be filled with happiness but only the wellbeing of her children and loved ones.

In our memories from every reunion, every bingo night or when playing cards she was always the superstar! and even those days where there was an argument or disagreement… we knew very well that her kind and forgiving soul would always come back the next day and carry our backs no matter what.
