J. Van J. Allen

J.Van Jerome Allen, 61, of Providence, Rhode Island passed peacefully on Sunday, August 25, 2019 at Hope Hospice & Palliative Care of RI surrounded by his loving family.He was born in Raleigh North Carolina on September 16, 1957. He was the son of the late Caroline Louise Lassiter of Providence RI and Willie Allen II of Raleigh North Carolina.

J.Van enjoyed working as a cook in his early years at Sticky Fingers and Wes Rib House.  He then worked 20 years prior to his illness at Ocean State Job lot.  He enjoyed Fishing, Cooking and animals. He had a special bond with his dog, Junior.  He also served as an Army National Guardsmen.  J.Van loved his family and would open his door to anyone who needed a hand.

He was the loving father of J.Van Sherrod of Marietta, Georgia, Horace and Mildred Johnson of Providence, Rhode Island; grandfather of Ta’Liyah Johnson-Young, Thaddeus Young Jr., Jyonna Sherrod, Joesph Sherrod, Danaesha Tyler and Junaisha Johnson; great grandfather of JaVanna Tyler.  Besides his children, J.Van is survived by his wife Debra Wilson of 27 years, and siblings Larry Lassiter, Antoinette Summerville, Willie Allen III, Beverly Johnson and Tina Lassiter of Providence, RI, Joyce Perry of Newport, RI, Patricia Coleman of Florida, Willard (Lee) Allen of Virginia, two aunts Alice Wilkins and Marthann Davis of Norfolk Virginia as well as 19 nieces and nephews and a host of cousins.

J.Van was also the Step Father to Eleanor, Markise, Donnell Wilson and Step grandfather to their 20 children.    

He was preceded in death by the Late Harold Lassiter of North Carolina. He was very special to a host of family, friends and colleagues that he touched throughout his life.  He will be truly missed by all who loved and knew him.
