Donald Alfred Griffin passed away peacefully at his home in Providence on Sunday, May 13, 2018. He was the son of the late Lewis F. and Kathleen Strother Griffin.
Donald was educated in the Providence Public School System and last attended Central High School.
Donald was a retired employee of the City of Providence where he worked for over 30 years as a truck driver and senior mechanic. He also worked as a sous chef for Ballards Restaurant of Providence and as a shuttle bus driver with Alamo Car Rentals.
Donald worked very diligently in the church and served over the years in many capacities as an usher, choir director, organist and deacon. He assisted the Helps Ministry to provide for those in need and was ordained as an Elder with the Church of God In Christ.
Donald truly loved to help others whether it was his family, his church, his next-door neighbor or a stranger on the street.
Donald enjoyed woodworking, playing the organ, listening to classical music, word puzzles, electronic gadgets, football and travel.
Donald is survived by his current wife, Dora Hall-Griffin; brother Lewis and sister-in-law Alice Griffin; his children Donna Griffin from his first marriage to Vernel Pilon; Donald "Eric" and David Griffin from his second marriage to Barbara Griffin (deceased), his grandchildren, nieces, nephews and a host of other family and friends.
