Hilda Martinez Obituary

On March 9, 2024, our beloved, Hilda Marina Martinez, went to be with the Lord, due to complications with her heart. During her final moments she was surrounded by her loved ones.

Hilda was known to everyone by her middle name, Marina. Marina was born on April 1, 1938 in Sabana Iglesias, Santiago, Dominican Republic. In 1970, she migrated to the US and lived in NY for several years before relocating to Providence RI. There Marina started a home daycare, and later worked in the jewelry district for ten years before retiring in 1997.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Petronila, and Jose Paulino Fernandez and her 2 brothers: Jose E. Fernandez, and Agusto Fernandez. Marina was the devoted wife of Santiago Martinez, who went to be with the Lord in 2016. She is survived by her one sister, Prudencia Fernandez, her children, Jose Caba, Domingo Fernandez, Antonia Martinez Burdie, Marisol Martinez Kritikos, her grandchildren, Ana Kari Caba, Adrian Nunez, Milana Cepeda, Jeremiah Burdie, Moises Burdie, Flora Maria Burdie, Peter Kritikos, great grandchildren, Saoirse Rose Voyer, and Analia Franco Caba.

Marina was a devoted Catholic and was part of the St. Michael’s Church, South Providence community for over 40 years. Her love for the Lord was evident in how she greeted everyone with her kind gentle smile, and how she embraced all those around her with loving care.

Marina was a ray of sunshine, always making us laugh. She was truly a unique soul that was a blessing to all. Marina will be greatly missed by all her family and friends.

In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to St. Jude’s in honor of Marina.
