Santiago Martinez, 69, passed away on Sunday May 15, 2016 at Rhode Island Hospital in Providence RI surrounded by his loving family.  He was born on January 5, 1947 in the Dominican Republic. He was the son of the late Nicolás Fernández and the late Efraína Díaz.

Santiago leaves to cherish his memory, his wife Hilda Marina Martinez, their 3 children, Domingo Fernandez, Antonia Martinez Burdie y Marisol Martinez Kritikos, 5 grandchilden, Milana, Jeremiah, Moisés, Flor María, Peter and 1 great granddaughter, Saoirse Rose as well as a host of family and friends who will miss him dearly.

Santiago, known to everyone as “Chago” was a loving husband, father and grandfather. Chago loved to sing and make everyone laugh. His deep faith in God, shined bright in how he lived his life. Everyone who met him instantly felt his joyful kind spirit. He had a beautiful heart to give and to help others. While in the Dominican Republic, Chago along with Hilda would take in orphans to feed and give them any necessities they needed. He passed this compassion and love unto his children and grandchildren.

The family is requesting that in lieu of flowers, please send any donations to the St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.

Santiago Martinez, 69, falleció el día Domingo, 15 de Mayo del 2016 en el Rhode Island Hospital en Providence, RI. Él nació en la República Dominicana el día 5 de Enero del 1947. Él era el hijo de los ya fallecidos Nicolás Fernández y Efraína Díaz.

Santiago deja para honrar su memoria, su esposa Hilda Marina Martinez, sus 3 hijos, Domingo Fernandez, Antonia Martinez Burdie, Marisol Martinez Kritikos, 5 nietos, Milana, Jeremiah, Moises, Flor Maria, Peter y 1 bisnieta Saoirse Rose, además de muchos familiares y amigos que lo extrañarán muchísimo.

Santiago, conocido por todos como Chago, era un amoroso esposo, padre y abuelo. A Chago le gustaba cantar y hacer reír a todos. Su profunda fé en Dios, brilló brillante en cómo vivió su vida. Todo el que se unía a él al instante sintía su espíritu alegre y tierno. Él tenía un hermoso corazón para dar y ayudar a los demás. Durante sus estadias en la República Dominicana, Chago junto con Marina llevaría a huérfanos para alimentar y darles cualquier necesidad que necesitaban. Pasó esta compasión y el amor a sus hijos y nietos.

A petición de la familia, por favor en lugar de flores, enviar donaciones a St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
