Mary F. McCauley, 85, of Providence, Rhode Island, went home to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, Friday evening, March 30, 2018. Mary was born January 4, 1933, in Providence RI. She was the daughter of the late Harold “Buster” Bento and the late Ophelia (Broadway) Bento.
Mary, affectionally known as “Gammy”, had a zest for life. Everyone she met was touched by her warmth. Her greatest joy was her family. She loved spending time with them, whether it was playing games, watching a movie or just enjoying a meal together. She loved to be surrounded by her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Mary returned to school, at the age of 62, and earned her Associate Degree in Social Work.
She was a member of Allen AME Church, for 50 years, where she taught Sunday School and served on the Usher’s Board and the Steward’s Board.
She was the wife of Robert McCauley, Sr. In addition to her husband, she leaves two daughters, Charlyce Lewis of East Providence; Theresa McCauley and her partner Glen Wilkins of Providence; and two sons, Robert McCauley and his wife Cynthia, and Raymond McCauley and his wife Laurie, all of Providence. She also leaves 27 grandchildren and 29 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by 3 sons, Richard, Ronald and Michael Bento; a daughter, Barbara McCauley; her brothers, Walter and Freddie Jones; and her sisters, Helen Gibbs, Dorothy Beatty and Evelyn “Babe” Royster.
