Welcome to the memorial page for

Emile Eku King, Sr. (Big Brother)

October 10, 1936 ~ September 15, 2016 (age 79) 79 Years Old

At 79, the King and Mitchell families announce with deepest regrets and sorrow the home going of Emile Eku King, Sr., who was a few days shy of his 80th birthday, during the early hours of September 12, 2016.

Born on October 10, 1936, Eku “Big Brother”, as he was commonly called, matriculated from the Republic of Sierra Leone to the Republic of Liberia where he met and married beautiful Sarah Mitchell, daughter of the late Honorable Samuel Mitchell, Sr. of then Rivercess Territory (now Margibi County).

Having a knack for fixing things mechanical, he started his career with the Ministry of Public Works where he rose through the ranks, becoming Director of Procurement. At this position, he was able to influence the ministry’s purchasing policy for many years until he immigrated to the United States of America in 1994 due to the civil unrest in his beloved, adopted Liberia.

Eku is survived by his beautiful wife of 57 years, Sarah Mitchell King, children Grace King Toe (Theo), Lucia King Newton (Stanford), Emile, Jr. (Plascer), Oliver Jeremy, Amelia King Kijan (Caesar), and siblings Princess King Wilkins, Quaku, Prudence, Violet, Kojo (Amanda), and Amelia King Capehart (Wellington), as well as many other relatives, including grandchildren, cousins, nieces, nephews, uncles and aunts in Liberia, Sierra Leone, Great Britain, and the United States of America.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Emile King and Lucy (Miller) King and brother, Christian King “T-Bray” (Tea Bread), a basketball aficionado in Liberia.

Like all who predeceased him, may the almighty God grant him eternal rest and shine His light in perpetuity on him.

We love you “Big Brother” and will do all we can to ensure that your legacy endures. God bless!
